Al Wise
Al has been at Mt Vernon since 1981, serving as a church member in various ministry and leadership roles. In 2008, he volunteered to provide assistance in the equipping ministry of the church until a staff member was called to this position. A search for a new staff member was never initiated and a few months later the church affirmed Al in this position.
While Al's education and work experience are as an engineer, his long term commitment to discipleship and service made his transition to church staff member go smoothly. His passion for this work was kindled in a small group environment in 1986 and Al has been a strong proponent of life change through small groups since that time. His retirement from the Army Corps of Engineers in 2006 provided margin in his life for full time service at Mt Vernon.
After service in the U.S. Navy, Al graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He worked with the Army Corps of Engineers for 31 years, until his retirement in 2006.
Al and Laney have been married since 1969. They have 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Also, Al and Laney have served as interim care parents for Bethany Christian Services since 1996 and provide a loving home for newborn babies and young children transitioning from their birth family to their forever family.
