Discovery Zone Security and Health Policies

In DiscoveryZone, one of our goals is to create an environment that communicates church is a safe and happy place for our children and their families. Precautionary measures are taken to ensure the safety of our children and team members. In an effort to accomplish this, the following security measures have been put in place:

Volunteer Policies
We screen all volunteers who work directly with children. The application process includes completion of an application, an interview, and a criminal background check.

Safety Policies
We want to ensure that our children are safe when they come to church. We have a security system for checking and retrieving children from DZ class, and all of our approved staff and volunteers wear identification labels. Instructions are given to volunteers for emergency situations.

Health Policies
We want all of our children to be healthy, therefore, we have specific guidelines for parents to follow to assess their child’s health before bringing them to church. Parents should keep their children at home if they observe symptoms of illness:

Fever (99.1) or elevated temperature

Excessive coughing
Vomiting

Diarrhea
Discharge in or around the eyes

Questionable rash
Green or yellow runny nose

Any communicable disease

A child that is being treated with an antibiotic should have received treatment for a minimum of 24 hours before coming to church. All care givers and teachers should follow the same guidelines.

Security Check In
All children age 6 weeks through 4 year olds use the electronic security system for check-in to DiscoveryZone classes.  Parents will check-in their children at the DiscoveryZone checked-in desk.  Children wait in class until parents pick them up and match the parent/child label with the classroom teachers.  Parents need to pick up their children no later than 10 minutes after the end of class.

20 Minute Guideline

For better QUALITY and SECURITY, we have established a 20-minute guideline.  Check-in begins 15 minutes prior to the worship start time…and continues until 20 minutes into the actual class period.  At that time, classes will close until check-in for the next hour.  This allows the class to “settle” and then “get into learning” for the last two-thirds of class time.
